The work
When the roof under an array needs replacing, the panels have to come off before the roofer can start and go back on once the new roof is down. That is the work this company was built around. We shut the system down on the electrical side, label every string and every panel position, unbolt the racking and bring the array down, then stack it on pallets and cover it somewhere out of the roof crew's way. Once the new shingles are on we set the racking back to the original layout, flash and seal every penetration, rehang the panels, land the strings and check the output before we leave. Roofers call us because the array comes off on schedule and goes back on the day they finish, so nobody stands around waiting. Homeowners call us because the system that goes back up produces what it produced before it came down.
What is included
- Full shutdown and lockout on the electrical side before anything is unbolted
- Every panel and string labelled and photographed so the array goes back exactly as it was
- Panels stacked on pallets and covered on site, never left loose on the lawn
- Racking reset to the original layout with fresh flashing on every penetration
- Strings landed, system tested and output confirmed before we hand it back
How we run it
- 01
We walk the roof and count the array
Panel count, racking type, inverter location and where the array can be stacked safely on site.
- 02
Shutdown and removal
System off and locked out, panels labelled and lowered, racking off, penetrations covered so the roof is watertight overnight.
- 03
The roofer works
The array sits stacked and covered out of the way. We are on call for the day the new roof is finished.
- 04
Reinstall and reseal
Racking back to the original layout, every new penetration flashed and sealed, panels rehung in their labelled positions.
- 05
Test and hand back
Strings landed, inverter brought back online, output checked against what the array should be making, and the homeowner shown it running.
Asked about this
How long does the array stay off the roof?
As long as the roofer needs. We take it off the day before the tear off and come back the day the new roof is finished, so the panels are only down while there is work happening.
Do you work directly with the roofing company?
Usually, yes. Most of our R and R jobs are booked by the roofer and scheduled around their crew. We can also bill the homeowner directly if that is how the roofer prefers to run it.
